Machu Picchu, the mysterious “Lost City of the Incas” is a not to be missed destination. It is t he culmination of the most famous trek in South America – called the Inca Trail. A plethora of stunning mountain views spread across a tropical jungle. The Inca trail journeys through the high Andes mountain range and is the original highway used by the Incas. The path has a mix of Inca paving stones and tunnels and chasms are everywhere.
The trip starts in Cusco with a drive through the sacred valley of the Incas and the scenic town of Ollantaytambo where there are Incan ruins. The trek continues though the highest point Warmiwanusca and the valley of Pacasmayo. On the last day of the trek the magical cloud forest leads us to the Incan stairway to Winay Wayna and from there to the Inti Punku – the gateway of the sun. This is where you will get a glimpse of Machu Pichu and it will take your breath away. Go easy on the photography as you will have plenty of time to take all the shots that you desire. The trip back to Cusco is by train or by bus.
Flights into Lima are operated by Air Canada or Lan and connection is possible to Cusco, however it is recommended to spend one pre and post night in Lima to see all the diverse city has to offer.
